Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive (2004/108/EC)

This Directive differs from others in that it is not directly concerned with product safety but with the capacity of equipment to function satisfactorily in an electromagnetic environment, without the equipment itself producing an intolerable level of electromagnetic disturbance to other equipment in this environment.

For a Manufacturer, the requirements of the Directive include:

- Assessing your product against the Essential Requirements of the Directive, briefly described above. In practice this usually involves confirming that the product complies with relevant harmonized standards, which will often require some testing to be carried out.

- Creating a technical construction file.

- Involving a Notified Body in the correct conformity assessment procedures, where the Manufacturer chooses to do so.

- Taking all necessary steps to ensure that products are manufactured in accordance with the information in the technical construction file.

- Applying the CE Mark to the product, and issuing an EC Declaration of Conformity.

In the case of a Manufacturer located outside of the EU, the technical information must be held available from either an authorized representative inside the EU or by the person who places the product on the market inside the EU.
