Baseefa Seals Major Indian Deal
Baseefa has appointed Karandikar Laboratories of Mumbai to be its partner in India. It is the Buxton-based company's first major excursion into the fast-expanding, multi-million pound Indian market.
The deal with Karandikar involved the construction of a new testing laboratory on a 3,700 square metre site about 70 miles north of Mumbai, equipped with the latest ATEX and IECEx testing equipment as advised by Baseefa.
The laboratory has recently been assessed by IECEx with a three-day visit by Jim Munro, chairman of the international standards committee IEC TC31 and chairman of the IECEx Scheme Assessor's Panel.
The acceptance within the IECEx Scheme will be as an extension of Baseefas Buxton facility.
Ron Sinclair, managing director of Baseefa, commented: "We are impressed by the people we are working with at Karandikar, and we look forward to developing a joint enterprise which will serve the enormous Indian Ex equipment market.
"We are working closely with our Indian colleagues to satisfy the needs of Indian manufacturers of Ex equipment for both local requirements for testing and certification, and also for international certification within the ATEX and IECEx schemes."
Baseefa advised Karandikar at all stages of the development of the new laboratory, and laboratory manager Steve Taylor and test engineer John Wells travelled to India in October for the final commissioning of the equipment and preparation for the accreditation/assessment visits by NABL and IECEx.
Ajit Karandikar, head of the family business which runs the Indian laboratory, said: "Our collaboration with Baseefa means that Indian manufacturers of Ex equipment will be able to benefit from one of the best-known and respected names in the field of the certification of equipment used in hazardous areas. We are delighted to be associated with the Baseefa name in this way."
