Baseefa's Indian Deal Accepted

Baseefa's deal with Karandikar Laboratories, the leading Ex laboratory in Mumbai, India, has received full IECEx acceptance.

The deal with Karandikar involved the construction of a new laboratory on a 3,700 square metre site about 70 miles north of Mumbai, equipped with the latest ATEX and IECEx testing equipment as advised by Baseefa. As part of the deal, Karandikar is acting as the Buxton-based company's agent in India.

The laboratory underwent a three-day inspection by Jim Munro, lead assessor for the IECEx International Certification Scheme and also chairman of IEC standards committee TC31, just over a year ago

Ron Sinclair, managing director of Baseefa, commented: "We are delighted that our deal with Karandikar has been accepted by IECEx. The Karandikar deal has given us a major foothold in the fast-expanding, multi-million pound market of the Indian sub-continent.

"We will continue to work closely with our Indian colleagues to satisfy the needs of Indian manufacturers of Ex equipment for both local requirements for testing and certification, and also for international certification within the ATEX and IECEx schemes.

"We are also working with Karandikar to smooth the path for UK manufactured equipment to enter the Indian market."

Baseefa advised Karandikar at all stages of the development of the new laboratory, and laboratory manager Steve Taylor and test engineer John Wells travelled to India for the final commissioning of the equipment and preparation for the accreditation/assessment visits by IECEx and NABL.

Ajit Karandikar, head of Karandikar Laboratories, said: "This is good news indeed. It has taken more than a year, but Baseefa's and Karandikar's efforts have borne fruit. It would not have been possible without the tireless input, guidance and support from Baseefa, and I thank all at Baseefa for all that they have done."
