DSEAR (Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations) is concerned with the protection against risks from fire, explosion and similar events, arising from the use of dangerous substances in the workplace. The regulations set out minimum requirements for the protection of workers from fire and explosion risks related to dangerous substances and potential explosive atmospheres.

DSEAR became part of UK law on 30^th June 2003, the legislation imposing duties on employers and the self employed, with a transitional period allowing existing facilities 3 years to comply with the requirements of the legislation.

The transitional period ends on the 1^st July 2006, by which time existing facilities must comply

The Health and Safety Executive has been particularly active in this area since DSEAR became part of UK law, issuing over 270 improvement / prohibition notices, so it is important that Companies take the necessary action now so not to become another statistic.
